At 9:14 p.m., Inu reached the returns counter with no merchandise, no explanation, and several feet of paper. The clerk asked which purchase was disputed. Inu looked left, then right, then fed the entire receipt into the terminal. The machine approved nothing. It did, however, print another receipt.
